State of Illinois Selects Emerson Park Transit Center as a Mobile COVID-19 Testing Location
The State of Illinois is opening a new mobile COVID-19 testing site at the Emerson Park Transit Center in East St. Louis on March 10. The transit center is located at 929 North 15th Street. Anyone may be tested if they go to the transit center between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on one of the next four Wednesdays, while daily test supplies last. The COVID-19 tests are free. You do not have to live in Illinois to be tested.
The testing site will accommodate area residents who walk-up, utilize transit or drive-through at the Park-Ride lot at the Emerson Park Transit Center on March 10, March 17, March 24, and March 31. More than 800 parking spaces are available at the Emerson Park Transit Center, and it is served by MetroLink; the #6 Rosemont, #8 Alta Sita and #9 Washington Park MetroBus routes; and the #5 Tri-City Regional, #18 Collinsville Regional, #14X Highland Express and #20X Gateway Commerce Center Express bus routes from Madison County Transit.
“We are happy to work with the Illinois Department of Public Health to offer this central location with access to transit so even more bi-state area residents have the opportunity to conveniently be tested for the coronavirus,” said Herb Simmons, Chair of the St. Clair County Board of Trustees.
“Citizens can easily get to the Emerson Park Transit Center by utilizing Metro Transit by taking MetroLink or the bus, or driving or walking to the mobile testing site, which will be set up on the Park-Ride lot,” said Taulby Roach, Bi-State Development President and CEO. Metro Transit is one of the enterprises operated by Bi-State Development in the St. Louis region.
Simple nasal swabs are utilized for the COVID-19 tests and participants will receive their results over the phone within 4 to 7 days. Citizens who have medical coverage should bring their insurance cards. Uninsured residents will have the same opportunity to be tested.
