SCCTD Board Supports Improvements to MetroBikeLink System

The St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) Board of Trustees approved several contracts at its July 16 Board Meeting to ensure continued delivery of a worldclass trail system in Southwestern Illinois.

The board approved a contract with Demond Sign Company for $242,790 for production of a comprehensive signage package for the MetroBikeLink system.  SCCTD has been working for more than a year with Arcturis on the development of the signage package to include trailhead signage, mile markers, directional signs and additional information to improve ease of use of the MetroBikeLink system.  In addition, the board approved a $85,000 contract with Sonneberg Asphalt Co. to crack fill the entire MetroBikeLInk system as well as seal coat and center line stripe an additional four miles.  Work is set to begin later this summer.

Also, a 5.4 mile extension of the MetroBikeLink along the new MetroLink extension corridor is under construction to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport with completion estimated late 2025.

The St. Clair County Transit District’s MetroBikeLink System consists of more than 30 miles of interconnecting trails and bike paths in Southwestern Illinois.  The main artery of this ever-evolving system is the MetroBikeLink – a trail running adjacent to the MetroLink alignment, starting at the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center and extending 14 miles to the Fairview Heights Transit Center. This trail links residents to a total of six Metro Transit Centers in four different communities, offering seamless integration of biking and transit use via the MetroLink and MetroBus, as well as microtransit options like the SCCTD Flyer and VanGo.

The trails are made possible through SCCTD, public funding and partnerships with local stakeholders and organizations, including the Metro East Park and Recreation District. The organization has assisted with nearly every constructed trail.
