Security of the transit system is a top priority for the St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) as it has shifted its focus to customer service, rider engagement and ridership programming. Through a partnership with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois, SCCTD is working closely with deputies riding the system and highlighting their work and commitment to transit. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Davis has been riding the MetroLink system for more than 10 years as a member of the Metro Division of the Sheriff’s Department.
“Working closely with our Deputies is key to ensuring safe, secure and enjoyable rides for all our customers. Deputy Davis is an example is a great example of the level of commitment from these officers and engagement with our riding public,” said Herb Simmons, Chair of the St. Clair County Transit District Board.
Deputy Davis has been employed with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years. He has been assigned to the Metro Division for the last 10 plus years. “Dep. Davis’s greatest asset is his ability to interact with the public. He is soft spoken and treats people with respect. He routinely counsels young people on the choices they make because as he puts it ‘you never know if you make a difference’,” said Lt. Michael Hundelt, Metro Division Commander. “One instance where Dept. Davis tried to make a difference was when he observed a homeless female aboard the train. He went out of his way to contact a homeless shelter to get clothing and food items for her. He also assisted in getting her a place to sleep for the night,” added Hundelt.
Deputy Davis’s hobbies include Church and family including working closely with his brother who works for the Metro Division, Deputy Romero Davis.
