St. Clair County Transit District Receives Funding to Expand Trail System

The St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) announced today the award of a grant from the Metro East Parks and Recreation District for the build-out of the Old Collinsville Road Bike Trail.  SCCTD received a $243,000 grant from MERPD to build out Phase #1 of the trail from Lebanon Road to Rand Lane on Old Collinsville Road in Belleville and Swansea.

“We are honored to receive this grant award from the MERPD and to partner with them on this project.  Building on our successful MetroBikeLink trail will only help build access for our residents to our amenities in Southwestern Illinois and further access to transit.  As the transit district, we must be able to be responsive to the needs of our community in order to maintain and build transit ridership in IL. Building out the trail system is one of their top priorities,” said Rich Meile, Chairman of the St. Clair County Transit District Board.

Total cost for the project is $607,600 with SCCTD covering the remaining expenses.  This new trail will connect to Richland Creek Trail and the MetroBikeLink trail expanding the trail system further including access to 500 residential homes and to transit.  There will also be a trail bridge over Richland Creek on this phase.

SCCTD mission is to work with area partners and elected officials to ensure safe, reliable transportation access to work, education, and healthcare.
