The St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) Board of Trustees approved a contract at its April 15 Board Meeting for trail corridor study from Sullivan/Union Hill to the Memorial Hospital Station. The board approved a contract not to exceed $14,800 for TWM Inc. to conduct the 1.35 mile study as a part of the Frank Scott Parkway Trail Corridor. The study is scheduled to be completed by October 30, 2025.
SCCTD opened the $4.3 million Tecklenburg Trail in Belleville in March. The new, 1.1-mile, paved bike and pedestrian pathway connects residents in West Belleville, Ill., to the St. Clair County Transit District’s ever-evolving MetroBikeLink System that currently consists of more than 39 miles of interconnecting trails and bike paths in St. Clair County. SCCTD officials also announced the completion of more than $650,000 in communications, safety and wayfinding enhancements to its system of trails.
The main artery of this ever-evolving system is the MetroBikeLink – a trail running adjacent to the MetroLink alignment, starting at the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center and extending 14 miles to the Fairview Heights Transit Center. This trail links residents to a total of six Metro Transit Centers in four different communities, offering seamless integration of biking and transit use via the MetroLink and MetroBus, as well as microtransit options like the SCCTD Flyer.
The trails are made possible through SCCTD, public funding and partnerships with local stakeholders and organizations, including the Metro East Park and Recreation District.
