Public Art Takes Flight at New MetroLink Station

A new public art installation has landed at the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport MetroLink Station. On May 18, SCCTD installed “Taking Flight,” a sculpture featuring five large-scale gulls in flight that welcomes riders to the station.

Created by Massachusetts-based metal sculptor Dale Rogers, the artwork features gulls with impressive 12-foot wingspans soaring above the station. Rogers has spent more than 15 years creating metal sculptures that can be found in private collections, galleries and public spaces across the country. In recent years, he has expanded his portfolio to include permanent public art installations and large-scale exhibits.

The sculpture adds a distinctive visual element to the new MidAmerica St. Louis Airport MetroLink Station, located directly across from the airport’s passenger terminal. Designed to capture the spirit of movement and travel, “Taking Flight” serves as a striking gateway feature for transit riders and airport visitors alike.
