Give Transit a Try Before Winter’s Chill Arrives

In rain, sleet, or snow, public transportation remains a safe and reliable way to get where you need to go. Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT), St. Clair County Transit District, and Metro Transit are encouraging area residents to experience transit before winter weather sets in by offering a FREE Metro Transit Adventure Day Pass (a $5 value) to those who are new to MetroLink or MetroBus. To spread some holiday cheer, Santa and his helpers will join evening commuters on Thursday, Dec. 4, surprising riders with sweet treats and customized snow globes—each featuring a QR code to sign up for CMT’s FREE Guaranteed Ride Home program, while supplies last.

“Public transit is well known for saving people money on fuel, parking and vehicle maintenance, but there are additional benefits during winter months,” commented Kimberly Cella, CEO of Citizens for Modern Transit. “It eliminates the need to shovel and de-ice personal vehicles and navigate snow-covered streets, while decreasing the number of vehicles on the road in hazardous conditions. Transit riders can sit back and relax as they travel in a warm, stress-free environment.”

The FREE Metro Transit Adventure Day Pass allows new riders to see just how easy and convenient public transit can be—especially before winter weather arrives.

CMT’s Guaranteed Ride Home program provides peace of mind for regular transit users by offering subsidized access to immediate transportation options when unexpected situations arise. In cases of personal emergencies, illness, unscheduled overtime, or severe weather, CMT reimburses 80% of the cost of a ride-hailing service, taxi, or rental car—up to four times per year. Pre-registration is required.

Santa’s Schedule:
Santa will ride MetroLink from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4. His helpers will be greeting riders during the same timeframe at the following Transit Centers:

  • 5th & Missouri

  • Belleville

  • Brentwood I-64

  • Central West End

  • North Hanley

  • Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44
