Art arrived at the MidAmerica Airport MetroLink Station on May 18 as the station moves closer to opening later this year. “Taking Flight” commissioned by the St. Clair County Transit District features 5 large scale gulls in flight. The gulls are 12 feet from wing tip to wing tip and will greet riders as they arrive at the station. “Taking Flight” was created by Dale Rogers with Dale Rogers Studio from North Andover, Massachusetts.
Rogers is a metal sculptor for over fifteen years. His pieces can been seen in private collections via galleries and Fine Art Juried Award shows. As the same time, Rogers has begun branching into the Public Art realm; including permanent sculpture placement as well as large scale temporary public exhibits.
The 5.2-mile MetroLink extension from the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport will further expand the region’s safe, integrated public transit system. It will feature a new MetroLink station at 9660 Airport Boulevard, Mascoutah, IL 62258, directly across from the passenger terminal, improved roadway links providing more direct access to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, and a 4.3-mile expansion of St. Clair County Transit’s ever-evolving MetroBikeLink System of trails. The extension is slated to open by early Fall 2026.
