To celebrate National Bike to Work Day, the St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) and Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) will host a “pit stop” at the Belleville Transit Center on Friday, May 15, from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Bicyclists can stop by to enjoy granola bars, water and learn more about SCCTD’s Summer “GO TRAILing” program.

The “GO TRAILing” program, held in partnership with CMT, encourages area residents to get outside this summer and explore the MetroBikeLink system in Illinois. From May 9 through August 8, participants of all ages can earn incentives by tracking miles spent walking, biking, wheeling, running, skating or skipping along 39 miles of interconnected trails and bike paths throughout St. Clair County. Registration is free and available here: https://scctd.org/scctd-summer-riding-program/

Participants can earn prizes for reaching 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles, including MetroBikeLink water bottles, “GO TRAILing” t-shirts and hats, monthly transit passes, bike helmets and bike lights. Those who log 100 miles or more will also be entered into a drawing for one of three grand prizes: a $100 gift card, Bluetooth earbuds or a Fitbit fitness tracker.

Grab your bike, ride transit and join Citizens for Modern Transit and St. Clair County Transit District staff on the morning of Friday, May 15, for this special pit stop along the MetroBikeLink trail system at the Belleville Transit Center. Whether you’re commuting to work or riding for fun, your miles count—so be sure to log them as part of the “GO TRAILing” program.

Make the most of your summer by combining biking with transit—and enjoy the ride.
