This summer, the St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) hosted their summer-long “GO TRAILing” program to promote MetroBikeLink trails and transit use in SW Illinois. Between May 10 and August 9, 106 participants tracked 14,075 miles on SCCTD’s MetroBikeLink trail system. This free initiative allowed participants to track miles and earn prizes as they biked, walked, wheeled, ran, skated or skipped along the 39+ miles of interconnecting trails and bike paths extending from the Fairview Heights Transit Center to the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center in Southwestern Illinois.
Prizes were awarded to those who tracked 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles and included water bottles, t-shirts, hats, monthly transit passes, bike helmets, and bike lights. All who tracked 100 miles or more by August 9 were entered into a drawing to win one of three grand prizes – which included a $100 gift certificate to a local bike shop, Bluetooth earbuds and a Fitbit Fitness Tracker. Winners have been contacted and arrangements are being made to get their prizes to them.
