St. Clair County Transit District, Ameren Illinois, and Bi-State Development Partner to Showcase Upgraded Lighting at Illinois MetroLink Stations

New LED Lighting Program is Part of SCCTD’s Commitment to Ensuring Safe, Secure Rides for All Transit Users

St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) is set to showcase the impact of its new LED lighting program implemented at every Illinois MetroLink Station in partnership with Ameren Illinois and Bi-State Development. Local transit officials will be making formal remarks about the significance of these upgrades. St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern, St. Clair County Transit District Board Chair Herb Simmons, Bi-State Development President & CEO Taulby Roach, St. Clair County Transit District Managing Director Ken Sharkey, St. Clair County Transit District Board, elected officials, representatives from Ameren Illinois, community stakeholders, and commuters will all be on-site for a showcase event to take place on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 6:45 a.m., at the 5th & Missouri MetroLink Station (150 N. 5th Street, East St. Louis, IL 62205) in the South Parking Lot, located at the corner of E. Broadway and N. 6th Street.

As part of SCCTD commitment to ensuring a safe, effective and efficient transit system, it has implemented a new LED lighting program in partnership with Ameren Illinois and Bi-State Development. The goal of the program is to provide significantly better illumination at all MetroLink Stations in Illinois, while also increasing energy efficiency and saving the district money. The event being held at the 5th & Missouri Station in East St. Louis is designed to showcase the impact of this new program. Local transit officials will be on hand to discuss the significance of these updates.

The SCCTD Board approved the project in May. Pyramid Electric was awarded the contract in July for $571,415. Improvements include the upgrade of halogen lights to LED lighting in all Metro Station parking lots, yards and shops in Illinois. SCCTD is receiving incentives through Ameren Illinois’ Energy Efficiency Program that will reduce the out-of-pocket expense of the project. Incentives are calculated based on the energy savings achieved by the lighting conversion and will pay for up to 15 percent of the total project costs.
